Brass in Tuxford
The band returned to Tuxford School on 20th June to perform a varied programme to a very receptive audience. The programme included film music, pop music, brass band compostions, traditional songs and an abundance of soloists. Other than Joanna Wilmot’s rendition of Misty (Flugel) all the other soloists were performing a solo with the band for the first time. Featured at this concert were Matthew Hollingworth (Cornet), Amy Collier (Horn), Kay Fritchley (Euphonium) and Emily Tongue (Trombone) playing The Lazy Trumpeter, Rondo from Horn Concerrto No3, Watching the Wheat and Berceuse De Jocelyn.

Brass Workshop for Beginners
In May the Thoresby Colliery Youth Band promoted a Brass workshop aimed at learners. Leading the day was Stan Lippeatt who commenced the workshop with a play through the pieces to be studied. Then over the next 3 hours the students received individual tuition from the senior members of the youth band, Christine Lippeatt, Walter Daglish and Bob Woffenden. Such good progress was made in the teaching sessions that at the dress rehearsal all the items went smoothly. At the concert for parents and friends, whom had come to collect their offspring, the group was eager to impress and concluded a fruitful day with a competently performed programme.

Thoresby's Conductor becomes the BBW Golf Champion 2011

The 2011 British Open Brass Band World Golf Championship has recently taken place at Bradley Park Golf Course. From the very start of the day the weather was excellent and this seemed to result in a spring in everyone’s step and an eagerness to get out onto to course. This year 44 players had signed up and 11 teams set off in competition. There were players returning who had competed every year since the competition started and a healthy number of new recruits. The course was in very good condition and was enjoyed by all that played.

At the end of the day the scores were discussed over a pint as the players relaxed outside the clubhouse, however nothing was finalised until the last group arrived back, as the winner came from this last 4 ball. The other talking point about this last group was how Colin Hogg had managed to get partnered with 3 ladies, Geanette Baker, Christine Lippeatt and Ann Roberts.
