Thoresby Colliery Youth Band celebrate promotion in thier 10th Anniversary Year

The Thoresby Colliery Youth Band has a lot to celebrate in 2010. The band formed in July 2000 and over a short life has seen some tremendous achievements. 2010 sees the band celebrate its 10th anniversary and events will take place to celebrate this milestone.

The first venture in 2010 will be to compete in January for the first time in the 3rd Section. The band is delighted at being promoted to the 3rd section after only having four attempts at the area contest and in 2008 actually qualifying for the National Finals in Harrogate. This is no mean achievement by this young group of players. Also in the contest field in the short life of the band it has seen them be crowned Butlins Mineworkers 4th section champions on two occasions, in 2006 and 2007. The band is now looking forward to its next stage of development.

The band is also proud to have worked with some of the countries top musicians and have gained valuable knowledge along the way. Stan Lippeatt (ex Flugel Horn Player with Grimethorpe and past Conductor of the Thoresby Colliery Band) was very instrumental in the setting up of the organisation and has maintained a watchful eye over the band. The band has also received tuition from Alan Morrison (MD Brighouse and Rastrick). Contributions over the years from Mark Walters (ex Grimethorpe), Richard Marshall (Black Dyke) Michael Dodd (Grimethorpe) and Chris Jeans (GUS) has been very much appreciated in the band room and particularly by our audience at our celebration concert in 2008 featuring these soloists. We thank everyone who has contributed to the development of the band to date and hope in 2010 we can bring you our audience and friends more memorable moments.
